Backyard Soccer, known in Europe as Junior Sports Football and in Australia as Junior Sports Soccer, is an association football video game in the Backyard Sports series, developed by Humongous Entertainment and published by Infogrames. It was first released in 1998 for Macintosh and Microsoft Windows, in 2001 for the PlayStation, and in 2008 for iOS. The PlayStation version of the game, alongside the PlayStation 2 version of Backyard Basketball, were the only Backyard Sports titles released in Europe.

See its page A contination of the original Backyard Soccer game only with the MLS pro soccer players. Like every other Backyard game, you start off with picking your players and start your season beginning at Divison B. If you make 1st or 2nd place in the divison then you move up to Division 'A' where the official pro teams appear at that point. If you do well in that Division then you move up.

Gameplay[edit]

The player selects a team, aiming to win promotion from the 'B' Division, to the 'A' and then Premier Division. If in the top four by mid-season in any division, the player's team will be invited to the Off-The-Wall Indoor Invitational. After winning the Premier Division, the player's team will be invited to represent the United States in the Astonishingly Shiny Cup of All Cups Tournament (a spoof of the FIFA World Cup). Regardless of the tournament's outcome, the player's team will be placed back in the Premier Division for another chance at the Cup.

There are several power-ups that a team can use. To activate a power-up, the player has to click on the opponent's goal.

  • Cannon—The player launches a fast and powerful shot
  • Underground—The ball goes underground and pops up in a random place.
  • Bowling Ball—The ball transforms into a giant bowling ball knocking over any opposing players.
  • Tracer—The ball is controlled using the cursor. Players click where they want the ball to go.

Reception[edit]

Backyard Soccer received moderate reviews. Its gameplay was criticized for the hard-to-use controls for the PC version and long loading time, while its graphics were praised on all platforms.[1][2][3][4] Brad Cook of Allgame stated for the PC version, 'when it comes to their Backyard Sports series, though, I think they missed the boat in one really crucial area: game controls.'[1]

Could someone who knows how to use ScummVM show me how to make this work? I downloaded what I think is the right thing but I'm not great with computer stuff, just really feeling like playing the game of my childhood.
Message me on reddit u/gmil3548 if you can help me.

The game works fine. You have to use ScummVM to play it on modern computers. Just extract the iso from the zip, then extract the contents of the ISO to a folder. Install ScummVM and point it to the folder you extracted the ISO to.

Anyone have trouble with this download? I got it fired up, but once I started a game the screen would freeze on a corner of the field and nothing would happen. Had to close the game via Task Manager

I had it work fine with ScummVM, actually, so maybe there was a problem with your download? Go Bears.

Will this work with ScummVM I was unable to get this to work with Scumm. I think we need a windows version to work like with Backyard Baseball.
